Watermelon Pond Wildlife and Environmental Area covers more than 4,000 acres inside the Newberry city limits, about 18 miles south of Gainesville. Its loop trails are marked for hiking, horses and off-road cycling, with bikes and horses held to designated trails. It is not open ATV ground, which is why Newberry riders end up on private property, farm land, or trailering to Ocala.
A lot of Newberry side-by-sides never leave the property they live on. Fence lines, food plots, pastures and brush hogging put low-speed, high-load hours on a drivetrain, and low speed is what a CVT belt likes least.
Mining and limerock are part of the working landscape around Newberry, and the roads reflect it. Rock dust into brakes and bearings, and constant vibration, is the wear pattern we see on these machines.
Newberry is a straight run down US-27 Alt to the shop, with no city traffic in between.
